Pan-EU Overview on Grid Hosting Capacity Information

Capacitypedia is an initiative between ENTSO-E and DSO Entity that aims to establish a comprehensive, pan-EU overview of publicly available grid hosting capacity information at transmission and distribution levels. This platform brings together information provided by participating TSOs and DSOs in a structured format to provide an informative overview. For the latest information, users are directed to the respective system operators' official websites.

Understanding Available Grid Hosting Capacity Information

Grid hosting capacity information provides an indication of the potentially available capacity of electricity grids, both at transmission and distribution level, to accommodate connection requests from new or existing customers. It provides stakeholders with an indicative view of where additional capacity may be available in the grid.

This information supports customers in identifying the relevant system operator for connection requests and contributes to more transparent and efficient grid planning, particularly for new projects such as renewable generation, storage, and new loads.

GOALS

  • Visibility: Provide stakeholders with enhanced visibility and clearer view of publicly available grid hosting capacity information from system operators (SOs) across Europe.

  • Comparability: Present information in a structured way enabling comparison across EU countries and fostering peer-to-peer learning between DSOs and TSOs.

  • Clarity: Support stakeholders in more easily understanding and interpreting hosting capacity information published by system operators.
