The grid hosting capacity map for Greece provides an indicative, regularly updated view of the available capacity in the interconnected distribution network to accommodate new renewable energy (RES) and high-efficiency cogeneration (CHP) installations across geographic areas.
Available hosting capacity is calculated at the level of high-voltage to medium-voltage (HV/MV) transformers and substations, taking into account two primary constraints: thermal limits (i.e. remaining transformer capacity) and short-circuit contribution limits at the MV busbar. The analysis considers only projects that already reserve network capacity, including operational plants, projects with signed connection agreements, and those holding valid binding connection offers. Projects with non-binding offers or pending applications are excluded.
Importantly, the map does not account for potential constraints arising from the transmission system, nor does it guarantee that available capacity at a substation can be fully utilized at the feeder level, where additional technical limitations may apply.
Hosting capacity margins are visualized through a color-coded scheme per substation and transformer, enabling users to quickly identify areas with higher or lower availability. The dataset is updated daily using the DSO’s internal connection management system, ensuring a high level of data timeliness.
Overall, the tool enhances transparency on network capacity for RES and CHP integration in Greece, while clearly signaling the need for project-specific technical assessment through the formal connection process.
