The Swedish TSO, Svenska kraftnät (SvK), has recently published a capacity map for the Swedish transmission grid for year 2026. The TSO is working on providing information for future years in an upcoming version of the map later this year. The capacity information is given on a regional basis, per county, for both power generation and demand. Updates are performed monthly.
The values provided in the map are a result of automated linearised calculations that only take thermal limitations into account, which means the results should be interpreted as only an indication and are not legally binding. The hosting capacity is calculated for firm capacity and includes planned reinforcements to the grid up to and including the analysed year. Svenska kraftnät does not guarantee that the values are comprehensive and error free.
At the DSO level, the Swedish DSO, Vattenfall Eldistribution, published grid hosting capacity information in June 2026 for the regional and local grid of Vattenfall Eldistribution. Grid hosting capacity shows indication of available capacity for new connections. It is firm capacity. In the future, Vattenfall Eldistribution intends to provide information for future years. The capacity information will be given per station in the regional grid and per area in the local grid, for solar, wind, energy storage, EV charger light vehicle, industry high demand and industry average demand. Updates will be performed every 3 months with start in December 2026.
The purpose of the capacity map is to facilitate early planning and reduce administrative burden for investors seeking a connection for electricity consumption of 1–50 MW and electricity generation of 1–120 MW, by providing an indication of where available capacity may exist.
The results should be interpreted as only an indication and are not legally binding. The hosting capacity is calculated for firm capacity and includes planned reinforcements to the grid up to and including the analysed year. Vattenfall Eldistribution does not guarantee that the values are comprehensive and error free.
