Hosting capacity assessment
| Capacity type considered for hosting capacity information |
Firm and flexible |
| Description of what firm capacity means and the aspects that structure the definition |
Firm capacity is capacity available at all times of the year. Statnett retains the right to curtail demand and/or production in order to maintain system stability and security. |
| Description of the methodology that leads to firm capacity results |
The firm capacity results are calculated with respect to thermal N-0 and N-1 limits in the Norwegian transmission grid (132–420 kV). The analysis is based on steady-state power flow calculations and Voltage analysis and sometimes dynamic behaviour. A number of representative scenarios have been analysed, with the most limiting scenario for each region determining the available capacity. Current grid utilisation is considered in order to estimate the remaining available capacity. |
| Description of what flexible capacity means and the aspects that structure the definition |
Flexible capacity will be subject to a set of conditions. If these conditions are breached, all or part of the planned consumption must be disconnected. |

| Options available for the investors if the map shows 'no capacity available' in their interested area |
All customer projects must apply for capacity through the national grid connection portal Tilko. They will get feedback on available capacity, and they have to provide documentation for maturity assessment. If the customer project is considered mature, the project will be put in capacity queue. If there is available capacity in the existing or planned grid, the customer project will get a reservation. If there is no available capacity, the relevant DSO and the TSO will provide information on the next steps towards getting a grid connection. |
