| Connection request procedure |
High-voltage grid connection process starts with a connection request by the applicant, followed by Terna’s technical proposal. After acceptance, the connection solution is designed, authorized, and formalized through a contract, leading to construction and commissioning of the required grid infrastructure. The grids infrastructure sizing and authorization process differs for RESs/storage and demand units: for RESs, infrastructure is sized and authorized by the applicant; for demand units, it is managed by Terna. For on-shore RES and BESS, this process is going to change in the next few months according to Legislative Decree n.21 of the 20th of February 2026. |

Users can anyhow ask for a connection: in this case additional grid reinforcements are assigned and should be permitted for allowing the final connection. |
