Hosting capacity assessment

Capacity type considered for hosting capacity information Firm
Description of what firm capacity means and the aspects that structure the definition Firm capacity is capacity available at all times of the year. Svenska kraftnät retains the right to curtail demand and/or production in order to maintain system stability and security.
Description of the methodology that leads to firm capacity results The firm capacity results are calculated with respect to thermal N-0 and N-1 limits in the Swedish transmission grid (220–400 kV). The analysis is based on steady-state power flow calculations and does not consider dynamic or short-circuit behaviour. Voltage analysis has not been included, and grid user profiles have not been taken into account. A number of representative scenarios have been analysed, with the most limiting scenario for each region determining the available capacity. Current grid utilisation is considered in order to estimate the remaining available capacity.
Description for the criteria and methodologies used that lead to the published information The calculations are performed automatically through a linearised power flow algorithm and the results are checked before being published.
Main assumptions/disclaimers behind calculations The results in the capacity map are only indicative and do not replace a connection request. The calculations only take the thermal limits of the transmission grid into account.

Additional information for connection request and hosting capacity information

Connection request procedure The following requirements must be fulfilled before the request is accepted:
  • Technical information
  • An energy analysis estimating the input/output to/from the transmission grid
  • A time plan for the connecting project/projects
Options available for the investors if the map shows 'no capacity available' in their interested area Apply for a connection through our normal connection request process.
Connection request rules First-come-first-serve
Information published for volumes of connection requests/waiting lines Yes
Granularity of published connection requests/waiting lines Per price area and type of production and consumption
